Holosun 507c Glock 19 - I've been a bit interested in the Micro Red Dot Sight(ed) optics. I tested, implemented and wrote the testing policy for RDS pistols in my department. When I first heard that Holosu was bringing the Micro Red Dot to market, I was excited about what it could do. I picked up a Holosun 507C on short order at a local gun shop and installed it on a Glock 45 with a KKM barrel and compensator. I was hoping it would be a super maker that would turn me into a one-hole shooter at 25 yards. It's not, but it's not an optical error.

Let's talk more about the Holosun 507c. This is a microscopic view of the sun's red spot. Made of 7075 aluminum housing and powered by CR2032 battery with solar protection, it works automatically only in low light conditions. The battery should last 10 years in just 6 modes.

The 507c has ten day vision settings, two night vision settings, and two intensity settings: Auto (the location adjusts to ambient light) and Manual (the user adjusts the intensity based on lighting conditions). To automatically switch to manual mode, press and hold the additional button for three seconds. I always put the 507c in manual mode and adjust for lighting conditions. The 507c also has shake-to-wake technology that turns off the device during programming and turns it on after movement.

The 507c has three reticle options: 2 MOA dot only, 2 MOA dot with 32 MOA ring, and 32 MOA ring only. To change it, press and hold the minus key for 3 seconds. The ring dot is similar to the reticle of EOTech optics.

Holosun 507c 2 MOA dot reticle. Are you shooting with the concept of a bindon target?

Personally, I always use a 2 MOA scope. When switching between reticle options, the 507c uses the same LED for each reticle, so there is no need to re-zero.

I find that the dots and rings fill the window more and my images feel more accurate. I also use a single dot optic on every weapon system that has a red dot, be it shotgun, rifle or pistol. So the advantage over optics is that I actually know a few friends who use point and rings.

The Holosun 507c shares the same footprint as the Trijicon RMR. Because of this, you can mount it on any manufacturer's optical pistol that accepts the RMR.

This is a great feature. RMRs have long been a staple of firearms, so the 507c is capable of matching all of these weapons. I wish more companies would follow Holos when designing new accessories. Doing so will reduce the user's connection options. It will also allow gun manufacturers to grind their slides at the factory, making the slide-optic mounting interface more secure.

Installing the optics on the Glock 45 MOS was easy using the #2 Glock MOS Plate (RMR Plate). Holosun includes the necessary screws for MOS platforms, which are rare for most optical manufacturers. The correct MOS mounting screws are difficult to find unless you take them to a local gun shop. The included screws are Torx, again included in the tool kit.

After setup, I first zeroed the 507c on 10 meters using the Holosu sight adjustment tool and battery cover. The process of resetting the device is easy. I really liked the sound and tactical press on the 507c. Every time I copied a number, he didn't care if I clicked one, two or three times. The arrangement remained unchanged and did not act under robbery. During the 6 months of using this optic, there were absolutely no optical transitions. I ran my last number at 25 yards and it was easily done with audible and tactical clicks.

I don't like the size of the windshield and the height opening. Requires accessories. When I needed to adjust the optics, I found that I either didn't have the tools or had forgotten them at home after finishing my first order. I'm used to using a brass or regular flat iron to get the job done. Second, the same tool works to remove the battery cover. Again, when the battery failed (I only replaced the battery once during testing), I had no tools. Battery replacement took longer than usual. This can be done with a secondary indentation on the battery cover, but it's not easy.

Although I never dropped this optic from shoulder height, it endured thousands of rounds, rounds, and all-weather conditions. I have complete confidence in this optical duty rifle.

The Holosun 507c is $229.99 at Amazon, which is a bit below the competition. If you answered first, I recommend contacting Holosun personally, they may be able to give you some help.

If you're looking for a new micro red dot for your pistol, or you're looking to buy your first RDS pistol, you can't go wrong with the Holosun 507c. For the price of these optics, you can get close to two RMRs. Battery life is great and it has more features than the Telsa EV.

So you should check out the Holosun 507c. I don't think you'll be happy with the money you spent on these optics.

Of course, Bullseye and IPSC competition shooters have been using red dot sights for a long time. Once someone decided to put a Trijicon RMR on a Glock slide, people realized they were seeing tiny, micro or reflex red dots on their defense pistols.

I tested the Trijicon RMR in a 2013 Glock 17 platform and the timing was great. But I passed three Trjicon RMR RM07 (adjustable LED) units.

The first lasted about a thousand. Then on a long trip, while I was shooting, the front lens element came off the RMR and got lost in the snow. I replaced it with Brownells (100% lifetime satisfaction guarantee) and the second RM07 unit was dead when it arrived. It wouldn't work. I then replaced it with a third one and it lasted about a year.

Mamba' With Top Windows

During that year, there were occasional strange problems, especially when the RMR's brightness changed during a raid. Sometimes it's really bright or cloudy. Then after about a year and a few thousand cycles the windage adjustment failed completely after the dot moved freely from left to right when the dot was cranked and wouldn't move when I tried to adjust it.

I sent an email to BrownRell explaining my problem and they refunded my money.

Fast forward five years later. I wanted to try the red dot sight again on my Glock. It's a rare situation when shooting irons because my eye can't change the focal plane on its own. I have corrective lenses in my dominant eye setup for astigmatism, so red dot sights, reflex sights, and other optics work great for me.

I wanted to try the pistol-mounted red dot again, but I didn't want to risk another $550, even though the Trijicon RMR was in a newer version (Type 2). But then I turned to the Holosun 507C.

Holosun Brings New & Improved 507's

The Holosun 507C (HS507C) has a red dot reflex design similar to the Trijicon RMR, so it looks good as a music downloader. It is very similar to the RMR as it has the same shoulder, meaning the Holosun 507C will fit into any slide mounted for the Trijicon RMR. Additionally, those who have tested the Holosun 507C say that the pistol can withstand being dropped and that the slide is built strong enough to handle twisting loads.

I started looking for one and though the price is right around the $300 mark
